A follow-up piece to You Are Not Beautiful, a painting I did in 2010 when I was deeply unhappy in my first year at college. I wanted the composition to be similar, with both reaching for their hearts, but I also wanted this picture to reflect my growth away from that period of self-loathing, while still conveying a sense of wistful sadness. Time doesn't quite heal all wounds, but it does soften them, so that you can bear to go forward.
